Oyster Card (30% discount card) - Placement students

Special arrangements have been made for students registered at education establishments outside the London area who undertake mandatory work Placement at an education establishment or organisation within London as part of their studies and who meet the following criteria:
- Must be 18 years of age or over;
- Must be registered as a full-time student as defined in the Terms and Conditions (PDF 16k) of the Student Discount scheme. The registration need not be at an education establishment in the London area.

If you meet the above criteria, please carry out the following steps:
1.) Call the helpline on 0845 433 1045 (Do not call the number on the TFL website, as they may tell you that you do not qualify, which is incorrect) and request a ‘Student Oyster Photocard’ application to be posted out to your home or work address. Alternatively, your university or college may carry stock of these applications for you to pick up in person.
2.) Email you university course administrator requesting a letter to be posted to you ASAP, stating that a.) you are on placement b.) between what exact dates, and c.) working for which company, and finally d.) that as part of your placement, you will be working in London.
3.) Fill in the ‘Student Oyster Photocard’ application once received and post it back to the address on the application, and enclose the confirmation letter from your university along with a passport photo and a payment of £5.
4.) Depending on the volume of applications, you should receive your photocard in the post shortly, which then entitles you to 30% discount on your oyster travel card on any 7 day or more travel. (Does not include payment paid for on a daily basis).
(Note: Applications can not be processed through the month of August, so please call before or after August).
